Character Rig

Character Rig from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Digitally painted in Photoshop, rigged in Maya and animated to show that the 3-D rigging worked. We also had to have a separately animated element incorporated, thus the heart monitor.

3-D Landscape

3D Landscape from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Modeling a complete background in Maya (3-D) and adding my own hand drawn animation on top; very rough and incomplete, but enough to give an idea of what's happening. Had lots of fun modeling this spaceship interior.

Exquisite Corpse

Exquisite Corpse from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

My segment of an exquisite corpse project, the third part of a compilation animation that three of us had a general idea of the story but each created their own individually without any reference from one another. Very absurd and fun.

Lip Sync

Lip Sync from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

First real lip syncing animation attempt, very inconsistent and jumpy, but the acting was fun to come up with. Voice is the great Paul Frees.

3-D Character

3-D Exercise from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Project in Maya where we had to animate a ball hitting a rigged character (which isn't mine) and have him react to it.

Pop-Up Book

Spooky Pop-Up Book from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Made in time for Halloween 09, this was an assignment in my digital animation class to make a pop-up book using planes in After Effects. Because it was around that time of year, I decided to do something spooky and since I loved scary books as a child, I went with a graveyard scene. As you might notice I was (and often am) inspired by Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. I felt the opening was important, so I have it float off the bookshelf and used some digital backgrounds/animation to segue into the actual book animation. Music by John Williams.

digital puppet

Digital puppet from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Digital puppet made in photoshop and animated in after effects. Not my best work but I was struggling with the frustration of the program.

Film with No Name

Film with No Name from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Week long assignment, first one of my third semester. Just needed to utilize a digital method, so I colored it in photoshop and compiled in after effects, my most common method.

Finished Short Film

One Helluva Nightmare from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

My semester final for Spring 09. This was derived from my final the previous semester, which had less content and was lacking color and sound. This is mostly hand drawn 2D animation that was scanned and colored in Photoshop and compiled in After Effects. I wanted the Hell segment to be creepy and uncomfortable, which gave me a lot of freedom to experiment with animation techniques. There is some charcoal animation which was fun but hard to control. On the whole I wanted it to be an enjoyable yet visceral experience.

Emotion

Emotion from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Weekly exercise putting a song to animation in attempt to evoke an emotion. I used a selection from John Williams' E.T.

Memory

Memory from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Weekly exercise exploring memory.

Dreams

Dreams from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Weekly exercise demonstrating how we perceive dreams. Lots of experimentation with this piece, fun and different.

Energy

Energy from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Week long exercise demonstrating our interpretation of energy. All animated digitally in photoshop.

Rhythm

Rhythm from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

A more experimental piece, we were supposed to animate and showcase rhythm without any sound or music, representing it instead through timing, visuals, etc.

The Elements

The Elements from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

First exercise from my second semester- fire, smoke, and water.

First Short Film

first semester film from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Hand drawn final my first semester, only color was the flames, and the Hell sequence was inverted to give that effect. A silent film.

early lip sync 2

early lip sync 2 from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Second early lip sync exercise which we were given without any basic knowledge of how to animate a lip sync, thus the Scooby-Doo/Hanna-Barbera feel to it.

Cut Out

Paper Cut-Out from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Three similar exercises using a paper cut-out character, connected at the joints with thread. The first one had to show it walking into frame, doing something, then exiting the frame. The second one had to display an object that the character walks into frame and interacts with. The third one involved a heavy object that it had to pick up.

Flip Books

flip books from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

First animations I ever did, all on note cards meant to flip by hand. First was the pendulum, second was the "every day action observation," third was the "inanimate object come to life," fourth was the wild card (whatever we wanted).

Changing Portrait

Dear Elizabeth from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Changing portrait done for a Frankenstein project, "April-December" style heavily influenced by Marc Davis.

Heartbeat

Heartbeat from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Heartbeat visual I made for a Frankenstein project, reflecting the human arteries and veins as researched by Victor.

Weight

Weight from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

early exercise, spent a lot of time working this one out and animating it, but think it's one of my stronger sophomore exercises.

Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Two week assignment sophomore year, straight ahead experimental animation. I had no idea what I was doing, and you can see how afraid I was to just let go. This was actually a tough one for me.

Bouncing Ball

Ball Bounce from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Another early exercise.

Pendulum

Very first animation exercise.

Character walk cycle

This went through multiple processes (the first one looked like he had a stick up his butt), and it still shows how stiff my style was, spending too much detail to little things instead of overall movement. It's great to look at old works.

Early walk cycles

early walk cycles from Travis Drahozal on Vimeo.

Rough walk cycle tests, old work.
